Beach Tournament Rules

There are noticeable differences between the indoor and outdoor games of volleyball. The rules below will help define game play and answer typical questions often asked as indoor players make their way to the sand.

Here Are The Key Rules!

    *Rally scoring

    *Maximum 3 contacts per side

*The block counts as a contact

*The net cannot be touched, even after the ball has hit the ground (continuation rule)

*Ball can be played with any part of the body (except to serve)

*If the ball is attacked as a hard driven ball, the defending team may slightly hold their     first shot in a defense reaction,

may not be a decision (reaction versus a decision is the key concept)

*The ball may be held by 2 players simultaneously at the net (joust) and does not count as a contact

*The attack cannot be completed with use of open hand or fingers (tip)

*The served ball is allowed to touch the net

*Players can go under the net as long as they do not interfere with their opponents

*Players cannot deliberately prevent the opposition for seeing the server (screening)

*If the ball is set over the net as an attack it must travel perpendicularly to the players shoulder line

*Teams swap courts every multiple of a point points (typically every 7 points: 3:4, 8:6, 10:11, etc)

    *No substitutions

*When referees are not assigned, the losing team will be the referees for the next match and complete the score sheet
